XMP isn't usually called overclocking, though it involves similar settings. The profiles are stored on the stick, and the motherboard retrieves them automatically. True overclocking would use a JEDEC profile that aligns with the CPU's capabilities.

xmp is essentially overclocking, though technically it’s just pushing the rated speed of your RAM. Unless the CPU caps performance as in higher tiers, it should function smoothly unless that happens, then it’s a defect and replacement is better. What CPU and RAM are you planning to upgrade? For an AM5 system, the 6000C30/32 offers the best value since they’re all die-based. You can also use an easy OC profile if you want improved low-end performance with minimal effort.

I own an i7 12700 and not 12700k, I didn’t realize what XMP is or what DDR5 is. I’m curious about how much speed gain would be if I used XMP 3.0 with 32GB DDR5 5200MHz against an i7-12700 with XMP 2.0 and the same RAM.
