Hello everyone. I recently purchased an affordable X58 motherboard from AliExpress (link provided). It comes with a Xeon X5650 CPU, which should have 6 cores and 12 threads, but it only displays 4 cores and 8 threads. The BIOS recognizes it as an X5650 and shows compatibility with CPU-Z and AIDA64. In the BIOS I can set up core options from 1 to 6, yet Windows always lists 4 or 8. I have Intel HT enabled in BIOS, but I’m not sure if updating the BIOS will fix this issue. It seems like the board might be faulty or possibly using a fake CPU model such as X5550. Since I’m on the latest Windows 10 version, I don’t think that’s the main problem. Any suggestions?

I can share CPU-Z and Aida64 images. They’re reliable sources for system details. The mention of compatibility concerns is valid, especially with budget boards. The dual DIM slots limit support for triple-channel memory.

The fix is really straightforward—I just opened msconfig, went to boot advanced settings, and turned off the "number of processors" choice. Now it's working perfectly!

Sure, I've only heard of this a few times before. I connected it to a machine with Windows already set up, and the old CPU was a 4-core, 8-thread model. That seems likely, since a fresh install probably wouldn't happen. Anyway, it's good to keep learning, right?
