I appreciate your kind words and support. I'm excited to start building my gaming rig and have recently acquired an Xeon X5550 with impressive benchmarks. However, I'm unsure if it can accommodate a PCI-E x16 graphics card, and whether investing in a high-end GPU would be worthwhile given its limitations. Could you share some recommendations or tips on compatible components? Thank you for your help!

I haven’t purchased anything yet—I only have this CPU and am considering using it. Is the CPU really outdated? Thank you for your reply. Any recommendations for an alternative CPU would be appreciated?

You're welcome! It's not a big deal how many PCI-E lanes the CPU has.

Avoid the Xeon option. LGA1366 processors offer PCIe connections tied to the chipset, while X58 provides all 40 lanes available. Even with SLI 980s, you won’t face a performance limitation.

It should work just fine, no need to stress! Your concerns about PCI-E lanes seem to be coming from a bit of confusion—maybe it varies by chipset. It’s been a while since you’ve seen LGA1366 CPUs, so it’s normal!

It varies by chipset. The X58 (LGA1366) supports 40 PCIe 2.0 lanes.
