Xeon fails to start in Windows 10 yet works in Windows 7
We have a Gigabyte GA-G31M-SL2 LGA775 motherboard in a secondary PC. An old Celeron was upgraded to run a Xeon E5430 there. The old hard drive booted Windows 7 without issues. We formatted the disk and installed a new Windows 10 on the main rig, then moved the drive back hoping it would start, but it won’t. After swapping the CLREN, it works now. Could microcode updates and a re-flash of the BIOS assist?
The instructions were set to start the device once using the older microcodes with Windows 10. A tailored BIOS was uploaded, and the processor is now functioning properly.
