Hey, the PC was working yesterday. This morning it didn’t start when I turned it on. I cleared the CMOS but nothing changed. Power and reset lights stayed off on the board. I also tried re-seating the graphics card, but no luck. Any suggestions?

What are the specifications? It seems the system stopped unexpectedly. Test one component at a time. Replace the CPU. Reset the CMOS again. Updated July 26, 2020 by TofuHaroto

Remove CMOS and unplug the charger for a short time or verify the power cable.

I recently put my X99 Deluxe Mobo CPU in the deluxe mode with an i7 5820K and 16GB RAM. Over the past few nights I let it rest instead of turning it off, because of a hectic schedule. I observed it sometimes wouldn’t power down or wake up properly, then shut completely in the morning. It was running Windows 1909, so no updates from May 2004.

What I attempted:
- Disassembled everything, removed the motherboard, cleaned dust with blow dryer, and re-seated the CPU with fresh thermal paste. When I took the paste off, it looked very thin, faded, or dry.
- Swapped in a new CMOS battery.
- Removed the GPU, installed it in another slot, pulled out two RAM sticks, but nothing changed.
- Only the power and reset lights on the motherboard lit up; pressing them had no effect. The CMOS clear button also didn’t work.

I noticed only those two lights were active. There was an odd smell of static from the case, possibly a short circuit preventing power from reaching the board. It seems something might be blocking power despite everything else being fine.
