X570 Asus TUF Gaming PCH temperatures...
So... lol... PCH is reaching 86c while gaming. Dunno if its because the GPU heatsing pretty much covers 100% of the fan, either way there´s nothing i can do to change that, even tho the lower slot is a x16 PCIe 3.0, this Colorful RTX 3080 is a behemoth and it wont fit on the lower slot, it will pretty much touch the PSU cover if i use any other slot. Should i be worried about this PCH temps? Usually sits at 60ish idle and goes up to 80-85c when heavy load. PCH fan ramps to 3000+ RPM. Using a Ryzen 7 5800x stock and 32gb DDR4 @3666 on this rig. HALP
The only PCH I’m familiar with that’s computer-focused is an Intel-specific component. You mentioned AMD, which limits my ability to add details. With Intel, it replaced the northbridge and southbridge functions. The chipset works efficiently. If you’re talking about the X570, it’s designed to consume around 10 watts and ideally runs with minimal fan noise—often not needing one at all. On many boards, the fan barely spins. This low RPM of 3000 is concerning; I’m curious if there might be another issue. If the problem lies with air intake, you can purchase small fans for the side intakes to channel air into different areas inside the case. These are usually inexpensive and might help. It’s hard to say without more clarity on what you’re describing.
Most chips can tolerate higher temperatures than a CPU, but not below it. It seems safe. There’s a good chance the capacitors on the board wear out faster than a chipset at that heat. I’m not certain. My main concern is the fan. If it’s proprietary, future issues could arise. When the X570 was released, people noticed that chipset fans often failed quickly, so I wasn’t surprised if someone knew the exact temperatures. Most thought it wouldn’t be a big problem this time, though I suspect the fan might be under heavy strain. Fan is certaily a problem for the future, no way arround it tho, every X570 board comes with one. The fact that it spinns fast its mainly due to its small size, it´s meant to spin that fast, right now is @ 3600 lol. Seems a way to fix this is adding a better thermal compound and whats causing is the GPU heatsink pretty much nearly touching the chipset fan
