I've been checking the latest AMD X570 motherboards and noticed that only Asrock models support Thunderbolt 3 either built-in or via a card. I understand Thunderbolt is an Intel technology that requires licensing, but it's surprising that none of the major brands like Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte are offering it. Probably something I'm missing.

Thunderbolt 4 promises the features you're looking for. Unless you've exhausted your PCIe options on a desktop setup.

I specialize in music creation and many premium audio interfaces employ Thunderbolt technology, such as Universal Audio Apollos.

Hey! I need a Thunderbolt connection on my Focusrite Clarett 2pre. I just sent a customer inquiry to AsRock about when their X570 Creator board with two Thunderbolt ports will launch. Not sure why only AsRock noticed this niche market—it's for folks like us! I've pre-ordered the 3900x and am planning to get Albeton Live and Pro Tools next.

Hey there, I understand your annoyance about the lack of Thunderbolt 3 support. It’s been a big deterrent for me when considering AMD products. Right now I’m using an Asus Prime X299 Deluxe II board with a 10-core Intel chipset that includes two native Thunderbolt 3 slots. For those curious about why we still need Thunderbolt 3, it’s because high-end audio, film, and creative tools rely on it for the fastest connections—whether it’s external drives, memory cards, or monitors. I’m also planning to connect my keyboard, mouse, and monitor across a room using a Cornings optical cable, similar to what Linus did with Thunderbolt 2. Unfortunately, Cornings hasn’t released their Thunderbolt 3 cables yet, and they haven’t replied to my emails about it. But Linus mentioned they should send one soon, so hopefully soon. As for Asus not supporting Thunderbolt 3 on the X570—actually, they do have a Thunderbolt breakout card and support it on many older boards. Thunderbolt is still a bit of a mystery, hard to track which boards work and which don’t.

The tb header performs well, yet adding native support on the chipset would enhance it further

This information isn't listed on the official site but appears in a video. It's unclear why it's missing. Other Gigabyte boards might include similar headers—check their specifications.

It's uncertain, though it exists.

Sure, you can likely use the Gigabyte Thunderbolt add-on card without any documentation.
