I recently assembled a new mainboard and planned to repurpose my previous CPU, motherboard, and RAM for a home server NAS. After moving the old components into a fresh enclosure, the system failed to start. It didn’t just fail to boot—it completely stopped functioning. The PSU isn’t spinning, the debug display remains off, and even though the motherboard’s RGB lights up when the PSU is on, there’s no power button activation. When I remove the board from its case and sit on a plain box with no drives or peripherals connected, it still won’t respond. I’ve followed all the guidance at My PSU fan starts when I connect the main cable to a specific pin, which suggests the issue isn’t with the fan itself. I’ve also tested jumping the power button and using a screwdriver to access its pins, ruling out the physical switch. I reinserted the CPU, checked for RAM issues, switched from dual to single stick, cleared CMOS by holding the on-board button for 12 seconds, and even swapped to a different PSU with a jumper. Nothing worked. My guess now is that the motherboard may have been damaged during the transfer. I noticed a small SMD component possibly dislodged near a mounting hole on the back, which could explain the problem. Another point: I initially used a 750W PSU with only one EPS-12V 4+4 connector, and accidentally connected one of its pins incorrectly (missing a pin), which might have disrupted power delivery. I also tried connecting the left half of the 4+4 header without properly aligning it, though the pinout was correct. I’ve re-seated everything and still faced issues. I’m seeking advice on next steps: any overlooked troubleshooting, a schematic for this board, or should I consider replacing it? Components I’m using are from ASRock X399M Taichi, AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, and Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4.
