A lot of unnecessary Seasonic scam. The EVGA GQ 650w is totally fine. It's the same as a be quiet! Straight Power 10 and Pure Power 11 and should handle a system with RTX 4060 perfectly fine for years.

I've been using it for roughly a year, but haven't used it much after switching to a G2 850W gold.

It's his 14th birthday, so he doesn't want to spend too much. The current build costs 700 CAD, which includes all parts and the price I paid for the CPU a year ago. He probably doesn't need such a high-end PSU since this is his second build.

As mentioned before, your decision is up to you.

Seasonic could produce some of the top PSUs, but paying for an expensive one here isn't worth it for this purpose. I'd invest in a 5700x instead of buying a PSU that's not required, especially for a system that barely uses half of its 650 GQ capacity. This PSU sounds like a cheap Gigabyte model despite being decent quality for such a build.

Because prices have risen everywhere and 550W models now cost more than their 750/850W counterparts, I wouldn’t consider a 130 dollar price tag for a solid 750W unit too costly. Amazon listing provided is the reference. There was nothing specific added, just a note about GQ’s poor build quality and potential dangers. Ultimately, it comes down to each person’s willingness to accept quality and their comfort with risk. I tend to play it safe, while others choose to save money by taking chances.

This setup should work well for the 1440 res gaming. I don’t expect the framerates to be extremely high, but I can’t see it failing to maintain around 60 FPS. I wouldn’t switch the power supply just for a giveaway system. Stay alert—if the motherboard supports it via BIOS, updating to a 5600 variant would be a great upgrade for the next holiday or birthday. It might also make sense to look into a better power supply and RAM, though ultimately it’s up to the owner. Thanks for doing this for them.
