If you plan to upgrade to a "K" overclockable processor, opt for a Z170-based board. My observations indicate the i3-6100 passmark is 5507 total and 2104 single thread, while the i3-4170 has a passmark of 5166 total and 2137 single. You probably won’t notice any difference. Most games can run with just 2-3 threads; the i3 chips have 4 (2 fast, 2 slower), which is good. Thanks for the feedback. What are your thoughts on the upcoming Zen processors? Would it make sense to wait until October, or do you think Zen would not match an i5 in performance? Of course, I don’t know the pricing for the new chips yet.
