I was curious about the impact of upgrading my motherboard. Present setup: i7-8700K running at 3.7 GHz, MSI B360M Gaming Plus RTX 2070, 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB series, 288-pin DDR4 3000MHz RAM. These components should handle most needs, but I thought they covered the essentials. The main requirement is a mATX form factor for case compatibility. Looking at what I've seen or estimated, two options stand out: the ASRock Z390M Pro 4 and the Gigabyte Z390 Gaming Micro ATX. These are solid upgrades over the current B-series models. They're not cheap, but they won't break the bank and could boost performance while I keep using the system before a full rebuild. I should also mention that this build is mainly geared toward gaming, especially World of Warcraft. I'm also considering streaming and doing light editing or coding work occasionally. Overall, this seems like a reasonable path forward—just wanted some outside perspectives on the trade-offs. Thanks ahead!

Considering overclocking, a Z390 board could be useful, but for most users it won’t significantly boost performance since these CPUs are from earlier generations and modern high-speed memory isn’t as effective.

It seems there might be some confusion about which component is being stressed. Personally, I’d prefer tools like AIDA64 or Prime95 for proper CPU stress testing. Still, based on the temperatures, there’s definitely room for overclocking—potentially reaching 5GHz across all cores if the chip is well-binned and cooling is adequate. There are many tutorials available, including specific guides for boosting the 8700K.
