I'm having trouble locating a solution, and everyone seems to be offering unhelpful ideas instead of a real answer.

My prediction is that XP only works with certain multi-CPU setups, and if you're not using those exact configurations, it won't function properly. XP is famously unreliable for this kind of setup. It's also conceivable there are chipset drivers or other components required before installation; without them already installed, the process will likely fail. You might want to consider downgrading the BIOS or searching for a boot file that includes a newer version of XP. Sometimes having a version that includes every update and patch can make a difference, rather than just adding more features that slow things down further.
