CPU: i7 8700K Cooler: Corsair H100i v2
Previously had MSI Z370 A Pro with enhanced boost at 4.7GHz. Set multiplier to 47, auto/stock. Used HWMonitor—max vcore 1.305. Prime95 caused temps to jump to 100°C. MSI board kept enhanced boost, so I disabled it. Core temps stayed under 70 after reseating cooler.

If your CPU isn't delidded, it can reach 100°C quickly at 4.7 GHz with all cores running at 1.3V using AVX2 loading, regardless of cooling. The issue with an MSI board might stem from either power limit settings, LLC adjustments, or using a different Prime95 version that isn't AVX2.

If your CPU isn't delidded, it can reach 100°C quickly at 4.7 GHz with all cores running at 1.3V using AVX2 loading, regardless of cooling. The issue with an MSI board might stem from either power limit settings, LLC adjustments, or using a different Prime95 version that isn't AVX2.

I don’t have direct knowledge of the 8700k, but similar Intel components that handle high voltages tend to generate significant heat. It doesn’t necessarily mean it runs super hot, but you should be cautious.

The TIM model limits heat transfer to the cooler to around 150W: NH-D15, 360 AIO, custom loop. (both opinions and my personal use). Without the liquid metal it operates between 4.6-4.7 GHz, and 1.3V isn't low enough for this frequency—more like a typical sample.

I experimented a bit more with it. It felt unusual. The issue wasn’t clear to me. I was using HWMonitor to track everything, showing 1.3V. After a few restarts and adjusting the multiplier, I kept leaving it on auto and ended up with better performance. Apparently, lower temperatures helped the system run smoothly. P95 reached its peak at 4.4Ghz (this was my first manual overclock attempt, possibly due to AVX scaling or something else). When I ran Cinebench at 4.7Ghz, the CPU stayed in the high 70s to low 80s. I switched to HWInfo for monitoring, which displayed a max vcore of 1.27V. Short summary: still not sure what was wrong, but it seemed to function more normally. Thanks for the assistance.
