Uncertain about where to share this...
While playing in windowed mode (16:9 on a 21:9 screen), using a controller causes my inputs to stop working. It feels like I’ve switched tabs out of the game and have to return to the window. This issue appears in both Dead by Daylight and Evil Dead, but not in Friday the 13th.
I’m not sure if it’s related to the game engine or a general problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Barty, which controller model is it really? Have you also experimented with this app/software, JOYToKey? JoyToKey (or Joy2Key) allows PC game controllers to mimic keyboard and mouse input, enabling windows apps and web games to be operated with your preferred joysticks. When buttons and sticks are activated on the controllers, it transforms them into keyboard presses and/or mouse movements, making the target application function as if a real keyboard and mouse were used.

Anyway, I don't use any controller for gaming, but for Dead by Daylight, I heard it might relate to the Big Picture Mode setting. You could try enabling big-picture mode in Steam, as this may help the controller get recognized (you might want to check the controller settings there too). Assuming you're using the STEAM version, though I'm not entirely sure.

I haven't tested any extra software since all three games support native controllers. The problem doesn't appear in fullscreen or ultrawide settings, but they don't fully support 21:9, so you're zoomed in.
*DbD added 16:9 support during gameplay with native 21:9, and the issue seems resolved.*
Possibly related to windowed mode? It might be diverting attention. Complete guess.

Ah okay, thanks for the update.
I didn't know DbD added proper support though. But anyways, I really don't have any concrete clue as to why this is happening only in Windowed mode. BTW, I'm also inclined to assume that it
could
be a game engine, or some optimization/compatibility issue (when run in windowed mode).
Maybe others who play those 2 games with a controller might have a solution for this, or some workaround. Sorry I couldn't help much though, lol.
