Hello, thank you for engaging with this forum entry! I’ll keep it concise but ensure all the specifics are ready for others to assist with my problem. Recently, I purchased the Keychron M5 8K. I’m looking for a mouse that supports ergonomic vertical positioning, is suitable for non-aim-based gaming, and fits my work needs. I appreciate the 8K polling rate since it aligns with my preference for higher performance. Previously, I owned a Logitech vertical mouse that experienced occasional connection problems over 2.4G wireless, but after firmware updates it worked fine. Still, I’d like the enhanced responsiveness that a higher polling rate provides.

Although I resolved some issues, I’m now facing connection difficulties with the Keychron M5 8K, which causes noticeable lag. This is making it difficult to use the mouse effectively. I’m using Windows 11, but changing devices isn’t possible for various reasons. I’m trying to troubleshoot:

1. Changed from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 – seems more stable.
2. Disabled power-saving settings in Device Manager for USB and HID devices – no improvement.
3. Updated firmware for both the receiver and mouse – still no fix.
4. Rebooted PC, restarted mouse – nothing changed.
5. Switched off and plugged in my regular horizontal mouse, which works perfectly – this suggests the Keychron model has unique issues.
6. Contacted Keychron support before posting, but haven’t received a response yet.

Could anyone else have encountered similar problems? What steps have you taken so far? If you’re facing the same, please share your experience. I’m open to suggestions and would value any advice you can offer.

Thank you for reading, and I look forward to hearing from others who might have faced this issue. If you need further details, here’s my parts list:

I believe you mixed up polling rate and DPI. DPI refers to how quickly your cursor glides across the screen during a movement. Polling rate describes how frequently the device and receiver exchange data to adjust the mouse position. Unless your polling rate is under 1k, it’s hard to see the exact rate you’re using. There might be several possible explanations for this. 2.4ghz is a non-licensed frequency range that anyone can access, which could cause interference from other electronics or nearby objects picking up the signal. Wi-Fi is not a perfect fix for what it aims to solve.

Yes, I have a lower DPI but it feels smoother with the same settings on different mice. It works perfectly when plugged in via Ethernet. For a fair comparison, I wonder if it's just a placebo effect or if the mouse itself is the issue. Regarding Wi-Fi, I haven't turned it off yet and haven’t noticed interference from other devices. My PC connects through Ethernet, while my partner uses Wi-Fi on their phones. I live in a rural area with less dense coverage compared to my previous location near bigger populations. If I disable Wi-Fi sources tomorrow, I should be able to determine if the problem lies with the Wi-Fi or the hardware.

Okay, I found the solution. It was the one thing I didn't do: While using the Wifi dongle, just make sure you go through pairing process. I didn't think to do that while troubleshooting, which was the one and most simple thing I overlooked. In the software, there is what is called "Paring Combination Key". It is set default to "Left Click + Forward Button". Then you see a green light flashing. Wait until that green light goes solid, that is when it is paired. Finally, it SHOULD be fixed.
