I'm encountering an 80072EFE error while checking for updates. Previously, I resolved it by using SHA-2 code signing, platform updates, IE-9 fixes, and patching wuaueng.dll for Vista + Server 2008. Now, after installing a fresh Vista on my laptop, these steps aren't working. How can I fix automatic updates?

Consider using the Legacy Update tool. https://legacyupdate.net/ What's the point of running and updating Vista? I’m sure this is just a throwback project, not something you need every day.

Many more individuals remain relying on Windows XP, Vista, and 7 than commonly believed. A nearby supermarket recently switched from Windows XP Professional to Windows 10 on a vintage E-Machine workstation. The older XP machine was still functioning as the point-of-sale system.

Because Vista offers unique capabilities not found in Windows 7, and it's not the primary operating system.

Are you sure you need those automatic updates? One of the key benefits of using older Windows versions is avoiding them. You can locate Vista updates up to 2017 at the provided link: https://msfn.org/board/topic/181756-wind...pril-2017/ and Server 2008 updates here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/176686-serv...nt=1139171 Newer updates are often tied to an ESU license, which is typically for Windows 7—so they might also apply to Vista.
