Hey everyone, I recently attempted to install an app from a third-party site, but instead of the app, I got lots of viruses. Yeah, I get that—I’m not great at this. I ran several scans with different tools and cleared all suspicious files from appdata, roaming, program files, Chrome extensions, etc. I also uninstalled every app I’d just added. Still, I have two problems I can’t fix by myself. First, when using Chrome, the browser logo doesn’t show; it displays the Internet Explorer logo. Second, I can’t update Windows through the settings update center. When I try to scan for updates, I get a 0x80070424 error and when I manually install, it says the service doesn’t exist. The “Windows Update” service isn’t listed in services either. Help would be really appreciated. Thanks!

You'll probably have to reinstall Windows, then add antivirus protection.

I'm trying to prevent installing more work apps and dealing with a slow internet, so getting Windows reinstalled seems unavoidable. If it's the only choice, I suppose I'll have to go through it.

You don’t have to re-download everything unless you install it properly.

It seems you haven’t saved any install apps yet, so you’ll need to download them again. Are you sure you didn’t overlook anything?
