Windows Support - IMG and ISO Documents
It hasn't been a long time since Windows started supporting IMG and ISO files.
Official version: Windows 7. However, Windows 7 didn't include this feature on day one—it was added later. I don't remember the exact date if that's what you need.

Curious about the timeline of support for IMG and ISO files on Windows.
Windows supports native ISO mounting from version 8 onward. Additional disc image files are currently available.

They can be attached to USB drives so they become bootable. Rufus is a program that does this. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with it. It’s also useful for burning the file onto a disc if it’s a disc image. I’m curious about when Windows began supporting ISO and IMG files.
