Windows Stops Working
When the PC powers up, the Windows logo shows, yet the screen turns black and the operating system halts, while the computer remains functional. This issue might stem from a software or hardware conflict. Possible solutions include restarting the PC, checking for updates, or investigating driver problems. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Windows XP, 2 GB, Everest 250W power supply, Core 2 Duo E6300, 1.86Mhz, LGA775 CPU, VIA Chrome9 HC IGP GPU. Even when the PC is powered on, after a short period (2 hours or 3 hours) the screen shuts down and displays a check signal cable message. The system runs normally with fans spinning, power indicator lit, but the HDD remains off and network access is unavailable. Frequent resets are necessary. Thanks...
The graphics are integrated into the VIA chipset on the motherboard. Your XP might have damaged drivers or the entire system (possibly SP3), and other issues could stem from the HDD and RAM. You should verify those components as well. Consider entering BIOS or XP safe mode, and try resetting the BIOS/CMOS while replacing its battery.
Inspect the motherboard closely, paying attention to capacitors, as these often fail and leak or bubble.
