Windows spreading and occupying excessive space?
You're in the wrong place. The only option is to use the cleanup tool and wipe everything, including saved restore points (be careful—this isn't safe). Also, there might be some old Windows.old folders left if you did this. Edited February 14, 2019 by Guest
Times of 64GB boot drives are over. FYI, I deleted the contents of the installer folder after having uninstalled all the programs I didn't use. I did that because after you empty the installer folder, programs won't uninstall nicely. Let's just say that folder has a legitmate use case. Oh and also updates, it won't let you roll back on those either I believe.
I’m going to align with the other person, though. My Windows uses only 4GB and has a 1TB SSD, which feels a bit tight. If they’re using a 256GB EVO drive, it could raise some concerns. I’d suggest checking out https://www.avg.com/en-us/tuneup-utilities—it’s free for 30 days and helps clean up unnecessary files plus other useful features. I’ve used this tool since version 7.0, even before Avg acquired it, and it’s been part of my tech business for a while.
Are you running WinDirSat? It displays the size of Windows folders, which is significantly larger than File Explorer. Most of your files are in the WinSxS directory, not in the Installer folder.
