I work with video encoding compression using x265 or HEVC. For a while I used a Samsung 850 Evo SSD, but recently switched to a new Samsung 970 Evo NVMe drive. After installing the latest Windows version, I set everything up in Windows 10, which worked fine until now. Since I run an overclocked i7 6700K, encoding takes a long time. I prefer doing it at night and turned off my monitor after one minute. I also enabled a feature in Razer software to cut off peripheral lights when the monitor turns off or sleeps. The next morning I restarted and saw the login screen again. This has never happened before. Could there be an issue with using the NVMe SSD at 2x PCIe 3.0 speed instead of 4? My CPU connects directly to the GPU with 16 lanes, but my chipset only supports 4 lanes. I also have a SATA SSD that needs 1 lane, so I use the NVMe at half speed. This might cause the sound card to stop working because it’s missing a lane.
