Windows Server 2022 Datacenter issues with touch pad functionality
Initially, yes—it's an unusual setup... This old laptop is running a server OS, but it's a genuine Microsoft Azure copy. I'm a student, and nothing suspicious is going on; I'm not using it for any commercial activities. It's a cleaner version without all the unnecessary software (under 11GB on startup), it's in the LTS channel, and it's more reliable. My background is in software engineering, and this is just my backup PC for experimentation. I really prefer having useful development tools instead of useless bloatware. All drivers are installed, they appear correctly in Device Manager, and I have full touchpad settings available, including precision and gestures. However, it doesn't function properly. I haven't encountered any issues with the standard Windows 10 Pro 21H2 before. This version of Server 2022 is based on that, and I can use the touchpad in the installer with basic drivers, but it stops working once installation finishes and the OS boots. Is this a known issue? It seems quite specific—probably nobody runs this OS on this hardware. But Synaptics touchpads are common, so maybe it's more frequent than I thought. Do you have any suggestions or some basic touchpad drivers for Server 2022 that could work? Could it be related to a security feature of the OS? For example, Wi-Fi and audio were disabled by default but are easy to turn back on. I didn't notice anything about touchpad/HID devices in the Device Manager, and my laptop is an Inspiron 15 3542 (31pc532). I tried it again today. Reinstalled Windows 10 Pro, installed drivers, then backed up using DISM/Online/ExportDriver to “D:\Drivers”. After that, I reinstalled Server 2022, but the driver installation failed—showing a yellow triangle in Device Manager when trying to install touchpad drivers for Server 2022. Instead of installing from there, I extracted the contents and manually installed them via Device Manager. If this driver works with Windows 10 22H2 or 21H2, why isn't it working on Server 2022? Is there a solution?
