My HDD failed and I lost many Windows files, making it unable to load. I managed to back up the drive (I hope). I need the Windows product key (hopefully in the backup) to install Windows on a new HDD. Can it be found in the backup?

This discussion appears in the Windows 10 section, assuming it's not an error and you're using Windows 10. The license key is linked to your motherboard's BIOS chip. During OS installation, the installer will detect and use the license key connected to your BIOS. Are you using an OEM license key?
