It's mainly because it functions properly with more than 4GB of RAM.

32-bit operating system designs are becoming outdated—many platforms are phasing them out, with mobile OS leading the charge. Windows continues to offer legacy 32-bit support, but it’s likely to diminish soon. Right now, there’s no compelling need to stick with 32-bit unless your hardware is limited to it. Using 64-bit is perfectly fine unless you encounter devices that only run 32-bit versions.

My laptop from 2009 runs a Core 2 Duo and is only 32-bit. Pentium 4s also support 32-bit.

Are you certain it's not just the operating system that runs on a 32-bit version?

I'm not sure about that. It was a Dell Inspiron from 2008 with Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM (or possibly 4), and it came with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I assumed it was just a 32-bit system, so in 2009 I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium.

Budget laptops usually ran on 32-bit Windows because of memory constraints, even though they could handle 64-bit if needed. Most programs didn’t fully utilize the extra memory, so it wasn’t a major advantage.
