For software, I recommend using Ninite. Most requirements are already covered there.

Avoid relying on antivirus tools. Just apply basic judgment and use Windows Defender. Recommend uBlock Origin and adblocker (add your preferred YouTubers to the whitelist).

Explore the Settings App and Control Panel to identify adjustments you want. Avoid registry hacks—they often remove unnecessary features without real performance gains—or tweak services, as this may lead to unexpected problems later.

Windows comes with solid built-in protection against malware. By following safe browsing habits, infection chances drop significantly—unless a virus is detected but doesn’t run. For stronger defense, consider external antivirus solutions, which might impact system performance or behavior depending on your choice. If you’re starting fresh and everything runs smoothly under normal conditions, you may skip constant monitoring. To prevent automatic updates from interfering during work or play, adjust your schedule via the Settings menu: locate "Windows Update" under Start, then configure active hours. In the Security & Maintenance section, find the maintenance options and set a preferred time for installations. You can also enable File History for backup, accessible through Start > Settings > Windows & Security > Backup. Microsoft is gradually consolidating multiple panels into the Settings interface, especially with upcoming updates like Creators Update and Redstone 3.
