I was turning off my computer for the night and saw Windows updating the system. It wasn't a big deal until it restarted and the old SSD reappeared as the boot device ©. I adjusted the BIOS settings to prioritize my M.2 SSD, but it no longer showed up in the boot list. Still, it detects the drive. I reordered all drives and the M.2 SSD worked properly. About a month ago, I used Macrium Reflect to move Windows files into the M.2 SSD, and it functioned well then. Any advice on what to try next?

If you manage to resolve the issue, attempt to remove the latest Windows update first. Disconnect all additional storage devices and reinstall the system.

The latest update appeared on the last day of March 2024 after reviewing the update log. Adobe Acrobat Reader received an update on May 6, 2024. Not all updates can be removed, so they won’t disappear from the list if you’re unsure. It seems Windows attempted to install Windows 11 and the history only reflects changes for your old SSD. On the M.2 SSD, both a Windows folder and a Windows.old folder were last modified on May 6 at 1:39 AM. There’s evidence of activity. You can try repairing Windows on that drive or reinstalling it on a new drive—your existing data should remain intact unless corruption is severe.
