Hello everyone, a friend's PC suddenly began showing the error "Windows cannot find mint.exe. Double-check the spelling." A new pop-up appeared every second, stacking up. From what I found online, it should be located at a specific path: the folder no longer exists, replaced by many .dll files and a .jar named "watch.jar". I was able to relocate those files, but the issue persists—mint.exe is still missing, and I don’t know where to get it. A site mentioned it’s linked to "Maple Softwares," but there’s nothing like that on his system. Also, based on the path, it might relate to Windows Edge, even though he uses Chrome and never visits Edge. I don’t have the "AppContainer" folder in his "Roaming" directory, so I’m not sure how to assist him. Scans with AVG and MWB didn’t help.

It's a virus. Use updated programs. Consider Combofix or SuperAntiSpyware.

Welcome to today’s tech landscape, where AV tools and malware share space harmoniously. AdwCleaner is the top pick (for speed), followed by Radium_Angel for a tougher approach. Add ComodoFirewall to the mix, ditch the outdated antivirus, and you’ll gain better oversight—firewall alerts will flag any internet attempts, unlike AV which only scans for viruses.

Thanks for your feedback. It looks like AVG detected "mint.exe" but missed it initially. It’s now labeled as "FileRepMetagen [PUP]". Given the PUP classification, it might not be a typical virus. From what I found online, it seems to be connected to ads and could be harmful for your browser. The pop-up doesn’t clarify what it’s trying to do, only showing a generic Windows error. I’ll try the suggested software and let you know the outcome.
