Windows is running on a new SSD yet no software has been added.
I changed the motherboard, CPU, and other components on my computer. The Windows license key stopped working or I wasn’t sure where it was saved. Now I have an activated Windows 10 version on a new SSD. I want to transfer all my programs, files, and settings from the old OS to the new one. As someone who prefers not to reinstall repeatedly, I’d rather stick with the unactivated version than start over completely. I’m asking how to bring everything back without having to reinstall everything again. I’m interested in files, programs, and possibly settings. I haven’t found a clear guide that explains this well. Would it be possible?
Connecting your Windows activation to your Microsoft account during the new installation allows you to revert to the previous setup, which will activate automatically. I've experienced three Windows 10 Pro installations running on different machines linked to the same Microsoft account.
It's worth noting that I still have Windows 10 Pro enabled on my older drive, while the newer one is set to Home edition.
Reinstall the programs. Your data can be copied anywhere you like. Simply connect the previous drive to your PC internally—it usually has enough SATA ports. If not, use a USB enclosure and place the old disk inside, then connect it via USB to your PC. You can also copy your old programs to the new system and update registry settings if necessary. However, I prefer a clean installation and keep any potentially faulty files from the old setup.
