The app no longer lets you set reminders, so it begins downloading automatically. To stop this, check your settings or preferences for download controls.

Windows 8 compatibility is closing (replacing 8.1), meaning upgrading is necessary for full protection. Upgrading to 8.1 would give you stronger security.

I've faced issues with 8.1 before an update, often seeing a black screen after the Windows logo. Microsoft only offered a free copy of Windows 8 as a fix, which makes me hesitant about updating again.

Your device performs the same action, but it doesn’t matter much to you. Perhaps you could attempt to turn off uptades through the control settings, though I’m not sure why you’d want to do that

Check if the update is showing in Windows Update and see if disabling it resolves the issue.

Would you like to run a new installation instead?

Once you refresh, adjust Fast Startup settings in Power Options and check if it resolves your concern. It helped me—I had the same problem. My graphics card and driver are outdated (and no longer supported), so a driver update wasn’t possible. Fast Startup needed to function properly in 8.1.
