Hi, I'm not sure if this belongs to operating system or tech support. Please let me know I got a new computer last week with a 3080 GPU, 12.7 GHz, DDR5 RAM and an ASUS Z690 Prime motherboard. When I installed Windows, the setup would reset the PC in the middle of the process (when clicking "I have no internet") and I didn't mind too much because after the reset I could finish the installation. However, I noticed something odd – black flickering on the desktop only (Windows). Games run perfectly fine. While trying to fix the problem, I went through GPU driver rollbacks, checked different DPI ports, but nothing worked. Eventually, I tried reinstalling Windows and realized the reset might be the cause. When I pressed "I have no internet" during setup, it switched to a full 1440p view from what seemed like a driverless 720p, showing a loading animation before resetting the PC. I strongly think this is what leads to the black flickering on the desktop only. Would really appreciate your help. This is the strangest thing that happened in my 10 years of building PCs.

It seems like you're trying to link a specific issue to a broader setup concern. To clarify: you mentioned flickering on your desktop, but no flickering when playing games. What about other elements like the browser, videos, or media player? The connection you're seeing might depend on more details—probably full specifications of your PC, brand, model, and all connected components.

Hello, thank you for your message. Right now I experienced complete blackouts lasting about 48 hours after the latest Windows update (which also triggered the "no internet" reset). I’m keeping it that way for now, though I’m curious why the installation keeps resetting. I’d like to explore possible fixes if the issue returns, or even try again next weekend since I don’t want to repeatedly format my PC. In short, any guidance would be greatly appreciated. - But yes. When the problem started, it was brief blackouts on the top portion of the screen only in Windows. Games ran smoothly, while browser videos and media players still showed flickers, suggesting the issue isn’t limited to the desktop. Sorry for the confusion. It seems the reset occurred during the Windows setup.

GPU: Asus TUF 3080 OC
CPU: 12700k
Motherboard: Prime Z690 - A (Asus)
RAM: TridentZ5 DDR5 16x2 5600mhz
Cooler: NH D15
Power Supply: RMX 750w
Case: Fractal Design
Software: Defined S OS
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro
Storage: 1TB SSD - Sandisk SDSSDA-1T00 240gb
SSD: Kingston SA400S37240G 240gb
SSD: Kingston SV300S37A240G
I’m not sure which drive is actually running Windows, but both 240GB drives were reset to no internet. I have a few HDDs that aren’t connected right now. Let me know if I missed anything, hehe.
