Windows generated a fresh login account?
Hi, I just turned on my PC but noticed half of my desktop icons disappeared. The search bar and Cortana button also reappeared, which they used to hide. I searched online for fixes and tried restarting the computer multiple times—seven times! I also followed a guide from HowToGeek about deleting profile files with .bak extensions. (I was really worried about exams and regretted messing with the registry.) I’m unsure if these steps helped or made things worse. A few details: Windows seems to have created new user profiles, as shown in the attached image. The login name listed is "jknhe," but I don’t know how to set it correctly. Will updating Windows help? My machine is a Dell Inspiron 3670 i5 8400 with 8GB RAM, GT 1030 GDDR5, and a 1TB hard drive. Do you have any suggestions? Also, if nothing works, would a factory reset solve the problem?
You can simply paste your files from the original folder into the new one you made. It’s not a big deal. I don’t know why a new profile appeared—maybe your Windows setup got messed up somewhere.
