Hi everyone, I'm experiencing a problem where USB drives aren't mounting properly on Windows. When I plug one in, the device detection sounds, but no partitions appear in the file manager. I've used tools like Minitool Partition Wizard and Disk Management to create partitions, and even tried forcing mounts, but it's inconsistent—sometimes it works on certain drives, sometimes not, and the partitions vanish quickly. I've also tested several USB sticks with the same issue. On another system, everything works smoothly, including keyboards and mice.
Have you checked different USB ports or used multiple ones? A driver conflict or a problem with the USB controller might be the cause. I’d test your computer on a Linux live environment to see if mounting/unmounting works better. If that doesn’t help, a Windows reinstall could resolve the issue.
I've tested various USB ports, but the problem persists. This isn't a company computer. I managed to get one of my drives working by clearing the disk (all zeros) in Partition Wizard and then creating a fresh NTFS partition. However, USB sticks still seem inconsistent on my system for some reason.
Open Device Manager and search for the drive under Disk Drives. You can find its model or serial number online to identify it. Tap the device, go to the Driver section, and select Roll Back if possible. If not, pick Uninstall, then restart your PC to reinstall the driver. If that doesn’t work, try Update Driver, first Automatically, and if that fails, choose Browse > Let Me Pick to check older drivers.
