Hey! I noticed this strange problem just after a Windows 11 update and after installing The Finals Playtest from Steam. Whenever I launch a big app—like a game—I lose responsiveness. The game won’t open, the Task manager stays closed, and pressing CTRL+Alt+Del gives nothing. After a few minutes, everything I clicked or typed happens all at once, like a freeze. When I tried opening Task Manager while playing Overwatch, I saw the CPU spike to 100%, but I couldn’t spot which app was causing it. So far I’ve tried rolling back the update, reinstalling Nvidia drivers, running a full scan with Bitdefender, and setting Windows to High Performance mode. My PC has a Ryzen 5 5600x, RTX 3070, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and a Corsair 2TB M.2 SSD. I’m hoping someone can help without needing to reinstall the OS. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

No, I don't have any physical storage devices connected to my computer.

Only internal SSDs are involved.

It seems like the problem might be related to storage, but I wouldn’t assume SSDs are the issue unless they’re malfunctioning. Have you attempted powering off the device, removing any SSDs not using Windows, and then restarting it while attempting to open an application?

I haven't tried it yet, right? The drive looks okay in Windows.

This problem typically stems from a constraint: memory at full capacity, processor operating at maximum load, and disk storage at full utilization. It isn't restricted to just storage devices.

It's a troubleshooting step - trying to narrow down the variables. If this only happens when a certain drive is connected, then you know that that drive is to blame. That looks like your boot drive. I was actually talking about disconnecting any drives you have that are not your boot drive to see if that makes a difference. As far as your boot drive is concerned, you could also try re-seating it - taking it out and putting it back in - to see if that does anything.

I question if a 5600X is being pushed too much by launching an app, risking the whole system crashing. If this were widespread, we'd see many similar reports and more than half of computers would suffer performance drops. CPU usage reaching 100% often happens with storage delays from hard drives. With SSDs I don't expect this to occur, though it's not impossible.

I attempted to disconnect the SATA drives and start only the M.2 (C drive), but the issue persisted. I ran another SFC and DISM scan to confirm, yet no corrupt files were detected. In the end, I had to replace Windows entirely. Everything now functions properly. Appreciate the advice from @YoungBlade!
