Windows fails to detect GPU briefly upon startup
System: Mobo: MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Board (MS-7E26), BIOS Version: 1.F0 GPU: Gigabyte WINDFORCE MAX OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB Video Card CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X 4.4 GHz 12-Core Processor Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-7200 CL34 Memory Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive PSU: Seasonic Focus GX-850 (originally from NZXT prebuilt in 2020; same power cables used). Previous RTX 2060 SUPER version. OS: Windows 11 Home 10.0.22631 Issue: Upon powering on the newly assembled PC, it launches Windows promptly. The display appears unaffected by scaling (normal 175% setting). After roughly 30 seconds, a Windows disconnect sound plays, the screen goes black, then after a few seconds both monitors reactivate and everything functions perfectly. Observations: I have installed and updated my AMD CPU drivers and NVIDIA GPU Game Ready drivers. Integrated CPU graphics were turned off in BIOS. During the brief pause after booting, Task Manager shows no graphics card under Performance. Once the screen goes black and then both lights up, the 4070 Ti Super appears first. Prior to disabling integrated graphics, it was visible during startup. After the blackout, integrated graphics were listed as GPU 0, while the 4070 Ti Super appeared as GPU 1. Attached screenshots: Complete desktop before blackout and after recovery (all working normally).
When updating all components, ensure you don’t just reinstall Windows directly. Uninstall and remove drivers for the old hardware manually. Use DDU to delete graphics drivers. Then apply the Nvidia App to install the new card drivers automatically. Check the motherboard manufacturer’s site and either use their automatic driver updater or download and install all required drivers yourself. If issues persist, consider starting from a clean installation of Windows.
