At the start of the year I upgraded my system to a Gigabyte 3X Windforce Gtx770 with 2GB OC from a Gigabyte HD6570. Since then, Windows Explorer has been crashing frequently, and I’m reaching a point where I feel strongly about fixing it. I’ve searched online and found that many people report similar issues with Windows 7, but the solutions they suggest don’t work for me. The HD6570 ran smoothly before the upgrade, and after installing the GTX770 I’ve experienced constant problems. I’ve reinstalled Windows several times without success, and trying Ubuntu didn’t help either—it quickly crashed again as soon as I switched back. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

It seems you've already handled system fixes and reinstalls. If that doesn't resolve the issue, the HDD might be failing.

It started after the graphics card upgrade; putting the old one back fixes it until I install the 770 again.

Errors possibly caused by the driver. One uses AMD, another nVidia.

I restored Windows after getting the 770 since I was experimenting with its core components and needed a fresh setup. I've also used both an NVIDIA and AMD graphics card in the same system without any issues before.

I resolved the problem by reinstalling Windows and turning on AHCI for the SATA controller. The issue is now gone.
