I don’t have to shut it down completely, just prevent it from stopping what it’s doing.

Consider upgrading to a more reliable antivirus solution. Windows 10 Defender often generates too many false alarms, making it ineffective.

Windows Defender successfully disabled several malicious files on my main Windows software folder on the NAS. A few were stored in archives and difficult to locate, which is why I’m grateful to Micropenis. My backup process has gotten better since then, haha.

Windows Defender offers a tool to prevent ransomware from accessing your files. Since identifying ransomware accurately is challenging, the system works by blocking any app not listed in the allowed category. By default, this setting is off, but it’s likely enabled. You can either add programs you wish to grant write access to personal folders or turn the feature off. To adjust settings, double-click the Windows Defender icon in the notification area (beside the clock), select "Virus & thread protection" from the side panel, then choose "Managed ransomware protection" at the bottom. There you can include specific software in the exception list or disable it. After making changes, restart your PC or any running programs for the updates to take effect; delays may occur before the protection activates.
