Windows and GPT partitioning approach
Windows and GPT partitioning approach
I acquired his 2.5" hard drive after he upgraded his MacBook with an SSD. However, when trying to install Windows, the system blocks further steps and displays an error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style." I need to understand what GPT partitioning means and whether it’s possible to make the drive functional.
GPT suits storage with more than 2TB HDD. Windows won’t install. Format should be MBR. Ideal for OS. One partition must not exceed 2TB.
Yes, it could help to convert all your non-OS storage to GPT. Being more precise is useful, but the main benefit comes from ensuring consistency and protection. Your setup with an OS SSD and two 1TB drives in RAID 0 gives you a solid baseline—reformatting will standardize the layout and improve reliability.
2tb is fine, its when its more than 2 tb like 3 or 4 theirs no speed difference, just how big each partition can be. and gpt doesn't support windows. For your 2tb os use MBR, for any storage BIGGER than 2 Tb use gpt, if it is less then 2tb storage then mbr or gpt works just fine
