I’ve had a Microsoft account for some time now, even though I don’t remember it anymore! I’m planning to buy a new laptop (HP with Windows 11 Home) and during setup I wanted to use the Create Account option to set up a fresh Microsoft account with a new Outlook email. Later, I thought about deleting my old account (but I won’t explain why 😤).

Do you have any concerns about this plan?
I don’t really rely on my account for anything (other than GMail, which is my main email service), I haven’t used the Microsoft Store, One Drive, or Xbox. I also don’t have any Microsoft software subscriptions, though I’ll be installing Office 365 on the new laptop.

Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

According to AFAIK, you are allowed to have multiple Microsoft accounts. It's essentially just an email address and password. Make a fresh one and use it. Ensure the previous one isn't linked to this new device.

Thank you for your message. Could you clarify what 'pwd' refers to in this context? I'm here to help with any questions you have.

You have the flexibility to set up a Microsoft account using any email address. For instance, you might use your Gmail address combined with a custom domain like [email protected]. Gmail will ignore the part after the + when sending messages for your bob account. This method allows your MS account to remain independent of a specific email address, enabling you to update the alias whenever needed to enhance security and prevent unauthorized access.

You are free to remove your previous Microsoft account whenever you wish. However, you must still have access to it. You can also set up a fresh Microsoft account at any time, without delaying the process of obtaining your new device. Simply delete the old account, create a new one, and log in using it once your new computer is ready.

The information provided does not confirm whether the statement is true or false. It only mentions that some users used workarounds and asks about their login method.

As far as I understand, a Windows account and a Windows email are distinct entities.
I haven’t had to rely on an email or MS Outlook account to access my devices before.
I’ve used MSN/hotmail/Outlook emails, but from my perspective, those are separate from the Windows login process, which I consider equivalent to a Microsoft Account.
Since around 1998, when setting up a new PC or installation, the login and password for that Windows OS is the Windows account itself, not tied to an email.
These two can coexist without conflict, as mentioned earlier.
If this doesn’t help clarify things, I apologize.

At one point, users could set up accounts for children without needing an email address. That situation has now ended.

For more details:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/a...o-...hout-an-em

Parents can still create the child's account and apply parental controls where needed.

Also:

This method isn't perfect, but trying to find alternatives probably won't work.

Choose domain login and you won't need to enter your email address. This allows you to set up a local account without using any bypass methods.
