Despite your efforts, it's a risky move since Windows 98 has numerous security vulnerabilities.

I set up the Voodoo 3 drivers and achieved 178 fps. I was using room 98 settings, but the Halo CE update told me direct 3D is turned off.

Browsing will be frustrating due to missing modern SSL support and security issues. It’s better to limit internet use and only run desired games, assuming compatibility isn’t guaranteed in a VM. The main solution isn’t sticking with Windows 98.

Explore ReactOS. It’s current and likely works with Windows 98.

Not ideal using DOS titles, but it’s still the best available. The latest browsers that work are Firefox 2.0 and Opera 9.x, though they’re no longer practical for web use. W98 reached end-of-life in 2006—about a decade ago. Keep the system idle or rely on network access or USB drives to transfer files.
