Prefer cleaning the disk and marking past system updates. Confirm you don’t wish to revert changes first.

Windows.old holds the earlier versions of Windows. It often appears after upgrading or installing the same OS multiple times. It's useful for returning to a previous version of Windows on your machine. You shouldn't remove it unless you really need the space, but you can delete it if you don't want to revert to an older system.

It typically appears after significant Windows updates such as Fall Creators or April updates. I often retain it for a short period to verify functionality, after which I use Disk Cleanup to remove it.
