At my parents' place I discovered a few old PCs—really old ones. I built and bought a bunch, including Compaq models with Pentium 3, Pentium 4 and Celeron chips. My question is, because the hardware is from that time (like Windows 95 would recognize it), can I just run Windows 95 and still get online? The Ethernet card is also from the same era. Would certificates block me completely? I’m thinking about using a multi-boot setup with Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP. Thanks everyone!

You could possibly get it running, but you’d need at least 64MB of memory. It works more smoothly on 98 SE and 2000. Don’t try to connect online because of security problems—this is not recommended for safety reasons.

You can access the internet, but formatting issues persist because modern technologies like CSS aren’t supported by older versions of Internet Explorer. Even basic sites such as www.google.com display incorrectly.

Alright, I understand. The 95's Max RAM is 64MB, so I’ll need to adjust it in the BIOS (probably down to 512MB if possible). Those old BIOS updates might allow that change. Once installed, can I revert it back to 512MB?

Windows 95 cannot handle more than 64MB of memory. For 512MB, you’d need Windows 98 SE or later. 98 FE accommodates up to 256MB, while 2000 supports 2GB.

Sure, just let me know whenever you're ready to save the RAM to 64MB in BIOS. When I see "Use it," I'll probably check it out since there aren't many options available.

Matt KC created a video covering the topic, closely matching what you're doing. He shared useful tips, especially for DOS systems where you can restrict RAM usage. His clips demonstrate practical methods you can apply.

I believe I caught that earlier—I need to look it up again. Thanks!

On Win95/Win98 it's likely safe now since malware won't function and those older XP/Vista/7/10 issues don't exist there either.

It reminds me of old times, and now it feels really meaningful.
