Yesterday I received my Microsoft academic status, which allows me to purchase Windows for $70. I’m wondering if I can install it on my upcoming PC build since the product mentions an upgrade from Windows 7.

You can obtain the ISO file from that source and then install it immediately.

Check your eligibility first. Verify you aren’t enrolled in DreamSpark Premium or MSDNAA. Reach out to your school’s IT team for details. If applicable, you’re using Windows 7 8 with upcoming Windows 10 updates ready for installation. All options are free. If purchasing, expect an ISO file. It’s wise to safeguard the data and keep the product key—store it securely on an external HDD or USB drive before proceeding.
