The remaining space was due to the installation process consuming some of the available storage.

The process started without a 256GB requirement, but conversion works differently depending on the operating system versus actual storage. Techquikie has a video explaining this. Windows typically uses around 20-30GB for itself, plus drivers and user data, and it also reserves space for a pagefile. Your 120GB Windows 7 is using about 70GB, with roughly 6GB left for game files and saves.

you can calculate it by comparing the total storage capacity with what windows interprets. the drive offers 256gb, but windows displays it in a larger format, which uses more bytes per unit. dividing the actual size by the displayed value shows you the real usable space—about 93% of 256gb equals roughly 238gb. this means you should still retain around 203gb. check if any software or backup system is using extra space on the drive.
