Your system might work well if you keep the HDD and motherboard together, since the product key is linked to the motherboard. However, you can also use your new 1TB WD Blue drive with 8.1 Pro in another setup without issues.

It seems connected to your motherboard rather than the hard drive. The issue resolved when switching from an HDD to an SSD.

You could transfer the HDD from the 8.1 Pro setup to another system, though you may need to reinstall Windows with the same product key once more.

Maybe using the SSD with built-in Windows functions works, but I’d really think about reinstalling for a smoother experience and a fresh start. Reusing the key should still be possible if it’s only the second time you’re using it.
