Hello. My Windows 8.1 has been behaving oddly for a while now. I didn’t notice it at first because I rarely use the system, but it seems it’s time to address the issue. Each time I start Windows, it restarts immediately without any login required, and then it boots normally. This happens consistently. I’m using a dual boot setup between OSX El Capitan and Windows 8.1 via Clover. When I boot into Windows, it goes through the selection screen, I choose Windows 8.1, it restarts back to the screen, then I pick Windows again and everything works fine. OSX is also functioning properly, and Windows worked well in the early months before this started. After some research, I found a potential solution that might explain what’s happening. If anyone has any insights or suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

My setup includes:
- Intel Core i5 4690k
- Gigabyte z97x Gaming 3
- Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming 16GB DDR3 RAM (Kingston Fury)
- A lot of peripherals: printer, 27" Hp monitor, tablet, USB hubs, Bluetooth, headset, DS3 controller, CD reader/writer, USB keyboard/mouse combo from Logitech, Powered speakers, 250GB SSD (split into two partitions for each OS), 2x 1TB HDDs from Seagate (one NTFS, one exFAT)
- Power supply: NZXT Noctis 450W or 650W

The case includes cooling with multiple fans and intake vents.

I handle both operating systems without issues, whether running normally or in safe mode. All functions operate correctly, though Windows seems to restart once before starting normally.

I'm not sure what it might be, but one possibility is to open the run box (press Windows + R), type "msconfig," navigate to the boot section, and check for any unwanted selections.

Reviewed the Boot section and everything appeared normal, but on the General tab the "selective startup" setting was enabled. I chose the "normal startup" instead, restarted the system, but it repeated the same issue. After checking msconfig again, the selective startup option was selected once more.

I saw a hib(something).sys taking up around 13gb of SSD space. I looked into it and found it’s the hibernate/fast boot feature in Windows. I turned it off, and the issue disappeared. Guess that worked!
