I purchased the key and saved 8.1 from MS directly. I just updated the graphics drivers for my card, though I’ll check if it works after a few restarts. If it does, I’ll follow up here or contact MS again. I configured the power settings for High Performance, but it kept asking how long to keep the screen on when using battery power—this seems confusing.

It clarifies now. Installing the UPS power conditioning/monitoring software is logical. I guess it needs to share the UPS's power status, right?

It's likely something users wish to understand when power is lost, and you can hide the icon if needed.
