Windows 8.1 frequently removes newly installed programs. It may wipe files during restarts or right after installation, leaving only a desktop shortcut. Clicking it shows deletion warnings and asks if you want to remove the shortcut too. This behavior could indicate a virus or an error in Windows 8.1. Please seek assistance. Thanks.

It doesn’t seem typical. It’s important to note that Windows 8.1 is no longer included in the standard support program. You may still receive assistance through Extended Support, but you shouldn’t anticipate new updates or fixes unless serious problems arise.

Some antivirus brands, such as Kaspersky, tend to take precedence over your preferences, pushing their own agenda. Most security software includes an exclusion list—adding your trusted programs there would be helpful.
