Whenever I shut down my desktop, I enjoy locking it and stepping away. Later, after waking it up from sleep, it freezes or locks again. I don’t like turning it off because I often leave it on for 30 minutes to a couple of hours and return to work.

No, I don't use a traditional hard drive. I rely on an SSD for storage.

- Software or device driver issue (most common)
- The hardware or device isn't compatible with Windows 8 or has a bug.
In my experience, the Creative X-Fi card would freeze. Removing it and using the built-in sound card resolved the issue.
For testing peripherals, simply disconnect all components except keyboard and mouse. Then try again.
Windows can offer guidance but won’t fix hardware faults.
Run command prompt as administrator and execute: C:\> cd C:\C:\> powercfg -energy
An HTML report will appear at C:\, taking about a minute. Click it to see details about the problem.
