Windows 8 or Windows 8.1? Ask yourself which version fits your needs best!
Looking into switching from Windows 7 to 8.1, I have some questions about compatibility and game support. How do games perform on 8.1 compared to 7? I’m considering using Start Back to explore it first and see if it suits me. How would the experience feel?
8.1 offers numerous performance boosts. I usually rely on the start menu, though many others prefer a different approach and skip it. Alternatively, you can simply wait a little longer for version 10. (Release date not confirmed) For example, Battlefield 4 runs significantly better on version 8 than on 7.
It's almost the same as Windows 7. Except there's Metro and Charms, both of which you can not use if you choose not to. I heard there's also better optimization under the hood. All games run fine on Windows 8.1, with the exception of some really old games. I find it really nice to use.
Whichever one is more affordable. They're essentially identical, and you can upgrade to version 8.1 from 8. Honestly, the differences aren't significant. Personally, I don't even pay attention to the absence of the start menu since I didn't use it much.
I have found that most general use items and games are compatible. There is a bit of a learning curve to 8 and 8.1 (not much difference between the two). Also you will find that windows 8.1 will work best with the start screen and it's tiles if you have a touchscreen monitor. Good for running general programs in my opinion.
