Windows 8 and 8.1 with Proxy and DLLHOST issues Error encountered
Good morning and welcome. I’m facing a major issue with the Com Surrogate DLL Host that comes with Windows 8, 8.1, and even Windows 10 Tech Preview. Whenever I try to move or copy a multimedia file, it fails to transfer data about 80% of the time. A few days ago I discovered the DLLHOST (also called COM SURROGATE) is the culprit. I searched online and found a way to disable the miniature preview picture, but now I have no thumbnails for every file, yet the copy/move problem disappears. This isn’t working for me—I need those mini previews. Can someone assist me with this? Also, everything works fine on Windows 7 and Linux.
I faced a comparable problem where Com Surrogate stopped functioning. You might want to try the solution I found. Launch an administrator command prompt and input: regsvr32 vbscript.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll which should re-register several DLLs linked to Com Surrogate and possibly resolve the issue. Let me know if that doesn't help.
Hello, I plan to try this right away. I need to reinstall Windows because I’ve done so much with it to fix it—it’s now more broken than good. Edit 1: I used the code you provided, but it didn’t work and the same error appeared. Edit 2: I disabled Dllhost.exe, which is working now, but Windows warned me about a virus risk. Edit 3: Disabling Dllhost.exe wasn’t a good choice; all my programs won’t start or take too long to launch. Edit 4: I don’t understand why it works on Linux and Windows 7 but not on Windows 8, 8.1, or the TechPreview version of Windows 10. Edit 5: I forgot to mention that with software like Double Commander, copying or moving multimedia data works fine, but Windows Explorer does it instead. Edit 6: The copy/move issue keeps happening, but the speed dropped to about 83 MB instead of zero.
Hello, I understand you need help with the DEP. I've run the CHDSK several times and everything seems fine. I only have Windows built-in codecs except the ones that come with Windows, and I haven't encountered any issues on Windows 7. Edit 1: It's interesting that on my second PC I also have Windows 8 installed and it works perfectly with the same files. When I moved my hard drives from PC 1 to PC 2, everything functioned smoothly. I thought maybe the problem was defective RAM, but after running MemTest86 and rebuilding the RAM in PC 2, there were no issues there either. However, I still need the RAM on PC 1 for stability. PC 1 uses an i7 processor, while PC 2 is an i3.
